What the bonus is worth

Est. $750+ value

75,000 miles × 1¢

At least $750 at Capital One's own rate of 1¢ per mile, the floor you can count on. Booking travel or moving miles to partners can stretch them further: points sites put them at up to 1.7¢ each.

Based on Capital One's own example value of about 1¢ per mile; transfers can be worth more.

"You could earn 52,800 miles per year, a $528 value."
What points sites say: 1¢ to 1.7¢ per mile

Third-party valuations: what points sites estimate points are worth on average, not a cash value or an issuer promise. Your value depends on how you redeem.

Biggest catches

  • A Venture X bonus blocks this one for 48 months. You can't get this bonus if you earned a Venture or Venture X new-cardmember bonus in the past 48 months. Getting the Venture X first locks you out of the Venture for four years. capitalone.com
  • Every application pulls all three bureaus. Capital One pulls Experian, Equifax and TransUnion for each application, so one application costs an inquiry on every report. Plan it around other applications that are sensitive to inquiries. doctorofcredit.com (third-party)
  • One Capital One card per six months. Data points collected by Doctor of Credit show Capital One approving only one new card per six months. A second Capital One application soon after this one is likely to be denied. doctorofcredit.com (third-party)
  • Possible two-personal-card cap. Doctor of Credit lists a reported limit of two Capital One-branded personal cards, with co-branded cards not counting. It's a soft pattern, not a printed rule, but it can block this card if you already hold two. doctorofcredit.com (third-party)
  • No more lounge visits. The Venture lost its two complimentary Capital One Lounge or Plaza Premium visits in January 2025. Older reviews that still list them are out of date. thepointsguy.com (third-party)
  • No retention bonuses. Capital One doesn't really make retention offers, so don't count on points to keep paying the fee. Doctor of Credit says it usually waives the annual fee on request, and refunds it if you cancel within 30 days of the fee posting. doctorofcredit.com (third-party)

YMMV: approval and bonus eligibility are the issuer's decision.

Sensei's move

  1. Get the VentureOne bonus before the Venture

The VentureOne offer is blocked by a VentureOne, Venture or Venture X bonus in the past 48 months, but the Venture offer only counts Venture and Venture X bonuses. So earning the VentureOne bonus first doesn't block a later Venture bonus, while the reverse order does. Space the applications at least six months apart given Capital One's one-card-per-six-months pattern.

  2. Transfer to airline and hotel partners

Venture-family miles transfer to 15+ partners, most airlines at 1:1, which is where they beat the 1-cent travel eraser. Watch the exceptions on Capital One's own list: Emirates, EVA and JAL are 2:1.5, JetBlue 5:3 and Accor 2:1. Transfers are one-way.

  3. Pool miles across accounts and people

Capital One lets you move miles between your own card accounts instantly, back and forth, under Rewards > Move Rewards. One Mile at a Time also reports you can share an unlimited number of miles with other Venture or Spark cardmembers, with no household requirement, by calling Capital One. That lets you top up a partner transfer or keep miles alive in a no-fee account before you close a fee card.

  4. Turn Savor cash back into Venture miles

Hold a Savor alongside the Venture and move its cash back to the Venture at one cent per mile. Savor's 3% on dining, groceries, entertainment and streaming becomes 3 miles per dollar, transferable to partners.

Sensei's take

  • Strong churn
  • Keep one year
  • Travel wallet: maybe

75,000 miles plus a $300 portal stays credit on a $95 fee is a strong first-year churn, as long as you haven't had a Venture or Venture X bonus in 48 months. After year one the ongoing perks are a Global Entry credit every four years, Hertz status and a per-stay credit at one hotel collection, and the lounge visits are gone, so the fee is hard to justify on credits alone. Move the miles to a no-fee VentureOne or transfer them before you cancel or ask for a fee waiver. It earns a wallet slot only if you value 2X everywhere with transferable miles and don't hold a Venture X.

Public offers anyone could apply for since Oct 2023, from the bonus-history sources we checked. Whether the first-year fee was waived isn't counted. A targeted or referral offer went higher, to 100,000 miles, but not everyone could get it.
