What the bonus is worth

Est. $310+ value

45,000 points × 0.7¢

Marriott Bonvoy points have no fixed cash rate, so the floor is the low end of what points sites say they're worth: $310 at 0.7¢ per point. Good redemptions reach 0.75¢ per point.

What points sites say: 0.7¢ to 0.75¢ per point

Third-party valuations: what points sites estimate points are worth on average, not a cash value or an issuer promise. Your value depends on how you redeem.

Biggest catches

  • Chase 5/24. Chase generally denies applicants with 5 or more new cards from any issuer in 24 months. A $0 hotel card is an expensive use of a 5/24 slot. doctorofcredit.com (third-party)
  • The Bold locks you out of the Boundless for 24 months. The Bold and Boundless share one family rule: holding either, or earning a bonus on either in the last 24 months, blocks the other. Taking the Bold's 45,000 points means no Boundless free-night bonus for two years. creditcards.chase.com
  • Amex Marriott cards block the Chase bonus too. Holding the basic Amex Marriott Bonvoy card in the last 30 days, approval for a Brilliant, Bevy or Marriott Business card in the last 90 days, or a bonus on one in 24 months kills the Bold bonus. creditcards.chase.com
  • Cash-like charges don't count toward the $1,000. Balance transfers, cash advances, travelers checks, money orders, foreign currency and wire transfers aren't purchases. creditcards.chase.com
  • Elite Night Credits from only one consumer card. If you also hold an Amex Brilliant or Bevy, you get the yearly Elite Night Credits from only one consumer Marriott card. The Bold's 5 ENC don't stack on another consumer card's. creditcards.chase.com
  • Bonus takes up to 8 weeks. The 45,000 points can take up to 8 weeks after you meet the spend to post. creditcards.chase.com

YMMV: approval and bonus eligibility are the issuer's decision.

Sensei's move

  1. One consumer card plus one business card for Elite Night Credits

Marriott gives the yearly ENC benefit from one consumer card per account, but an eligible business Marriott card adds a second, for two in total. If you chase status with cards, pair your best consumer card with a Marriott business card instead of adding the Bold to another consumer card.

  2. Space Chase and Amex Marriott applications

Chase blocks the Bold bonus after recent Amex Marriott approvals (90 days) or bonuses (24 months), and Amex's Bevy terms still name the Bold in its 30-day, 90-day and 24-month windows. Amex reverted the Brilliant to its older, less restrictive language on May 14, 2026. Earn one side's bonus, wait well past 90 days, and read the live terms the day you apply.

  3. Pay Yourself Back is a floor, not a target

Bold points can be redeemed as statement credits on airline and Marriott hotel purchases at $100 per 12,500 points, up to $750 a year. That's a guaranteed floor if you have no hotel use for the points, but Marriott award nights usually make more sense, and Chase can change the rate at any time.

Sensei's take

  • Weak churn
  • Keeper
  • Not for your travel wallet

45,000 points for $1,000 on a $0 card sounds easy, but it uses a 5/24 slot and blocks the Boundless and its free-night bonus for 24 months, so most churners should take the Boundless instead. If you already have it, there's no fee, so keep it long term for Silver Elite and 5 Elite Night Credits if no other consumer Marriott card is giving you ENC. It doesn't earn a travel wallet slot: no free night, 1 point per dollar outside Marriott and its 2x categories.
