Biggest catches
- Chase 5/24. Chase generally denies people who opened 5 or more credit cards from any issuer in the last 24 months, and the Boundless is no exception. Authorized-user cards count toward the 5. doctorofcredit.com (third-party)
- Any Chase Marriott card in 24 months blocks approval. You can't get the Boundless at all if you currently hold the Bold, an old Premier or Premier Plus, or another Boundless, or earned a bonus on one in the last 24 months. creditcards.chase.com
- Amex Marriott cards block the Chase bonus too. Approval for an Amex Brilliant, Bevy or Marriott Business card in the last 90 days, or a bonus or upgrade bonus on one in the last 24 months, kills the Boundless bonus. Holding the basic Amex Marriott Bonvoy card within the last 30 days does the same. creditcards.chase.com
- Cash-like charges don't count toward the bonus. Travelers checks, money orders, foreign currency, wire transfers and similar cash-like transactions are not purchases, and neither are balance transfers or fees. Don't plan to hit the $3,000 that way. creditcards.chase.com
- Free nights take up to 8 weeks and expire in 12 months. The 3 bonus Free Night Awards can take up to 8 weeks after you meet the spend to post, and each expires 12 months after issue. Time the spend so you aren't left with three certificates and no trip. creditcards.chase.com
- Elite Night Credits from only one consumer card. If you also hold an Amex Brilliant or Bevy, you get the annual Elite Night Credits from only one consumer Marriott card, not both. Only a business Marriott card adds a second set. creditcards.chase.com

YMMV: approval and bonus eligibility are the issuer's decision.

Top off a Free Night Award with up to 25,000 points
Marriott raised the top-off limit from 15,000 to 25,000 points as of March 2026, so the 35,000-point anniversary night can book a night costing up to 60,000 points. The welcome-offer certificates are capped at 50,000 points, and the Chase page confirms Free Night Awards can be combined with points (but not cash). This makes the $95 card's certificate far easier to use well.

One consumer card plus one business card for Elite Night Credits
Marriott only gives the annual Elite Night Credit benefit from one consumer Marriott card per member account per year, but an eligible business Marriott card's benefit adds on top, for two benefits in total. So if you chase Marriott status with cards, pair your one best consumer card with a Marriott business card rather than opening a second consumer card for the nights. Holding Boundless and Brilliant together does not add 15 and 25.

Space Chase and Amex Marriott applications more than 90 days apart
Both issuers block the bonus if you were approved for the other side's Marriott card in the last 90 days, and if you earned a bonus or upgrade bonus on it in the last 24 months. The play is to earn one side's bonus, wait well past 90 days, then apply on the other side, accepting that the 24-month bonus clock still has to be clear on the target card's list. Amex briefly widened its Chase list in March 2026 and reverted it on the Brilliant in May 2026, so read the live terms on the day you apply.

Sensei's take
Three Free Night Awards up to 50,000 points each for $3,000 of spend on a $95 card is a strong churn, provided you clear 5/24 and both the Chase and Amex Marriott family windows. After year one, a 35,000-point night you can top off by up to 25,000 points can easily be worth more than $95, so it is a reasonable long-term keeper for anyone who stays at Marriott once a year. It is not a general travel card, so it only earns a slot as the yearly free-night card.
