- When
- Year-round; rally dates vary by chapter
- Where
- Local EAA chapters, all 50 states
- Who
- Kids ages 8-17, parent signs form
How to get it
- Open EAA's Become a Young Eagle page on eaa.org and find a flight: register through EAA's online tool on EAAChapters.org, find a Young Eagles rally on the EAA Calendar of Events, or contact the nearest local Young Eagles coordinator.
- A parent or guardian fills in the Young Eagles registration form, which the pilot has and can help with.
- At the rally the volunteer pilot explains the airplane and walks around it with your child for the pre-flight check, then flies for about 15 to 20 minutes.
- After the flight your child gets the official Young Eagles logbook or certificate, with a personal code to activate a free EAA Student Membership and Sporty's Learn to Fly Course.
Fine print
- Free for ages 8 to 17. The pilots are local EAA members who volunteer their time and aircraft; each is FAA certificated and completes EAA's Youth Protection Training and background check.
- Flight length depends on local conditions, and no aerobatics are flown. Each pilot may tailor the flight.
- Each local chapter sets its own rally dates. EAA's pages give no national schedule; International Young Eagles Day is the second Saturday of June (June 12, 2027).
- EAA sends your child follow-up information about its free online ground school, youth programs and scholarships. EAA says your child's name and email won't be sold or used for commercial purposes.
