How to get it
- Sign in to Rakuten, a free cash back site, or join first. Open Rakuten's Synchrony Bank High Yield Savings page and click through to Synchrony.
- Apply for a new Synchrony High Yield Savings account through that link.
- Within 55 days of opening, deposit at least $1,000 from outside Synchrony. Money already at Synchrony doesn't count.
- Rakuten adds the $100 to your Rakuten account within a few months and pays out by PayPal or check. To be safe, keep the $1,000 in until it arrives.
What it means for churners
- No direct deposit is needed, so this works even if your paycheck goes to another bank.
Fine print
- One per Rakuten member. Rakuten pays the $100, not Synchrony; the two aren't affiliated.
- Synchrony must approve the application, and the account is reviewed to decide if it qualifies.
- Synchrony can change or end the promotion at any time without notice. Neither page states an end date.
- Synchrony's page lists no minimum balance for this account.
